As you probably have read by now, legendary performer, creative mind, WWE Hall of Famer and all-around legend Dusty Rhodes has passed away at the age of 69. Not much is known at this time on what exactly happened. TMZ reported earlier today that emergency personnel responded to Dusty Rhodes home early this morning saying that the three time NWA champion had fallen and was unresponsive. There were complications and a few hours later Dusty Rhodes later passed away. To say that myself and others in the wrestling world are not shocked at this news is an understatement. If you been a wrestling fan for the last 40 years you know who Dusty Rhodes is. Our condolences to Dusty’s family, his friends and fans that have lost the great performer.

WWE released the following statement on Rhodes passing:

WWE is deeply saddened that Virgil Runnels, aka “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes — WWE Hall of Famer, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history — passed away today at the age of 69.

 

Runnels became a hero to fans around the world thanks to his work ethic, his impassioned interviews and his indomitable spirit. Moreover, Runnels was a dedicated father to WWE Superstars Goldust (Dustin Runnels) and Stardust (Cody Runnels), a caring husband and a creative visionary who helped shape the landscape of WWE long after his in-ring career had ended.

WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Runnels’ family, friends and colleagues.
